The Department of Ophthalmology at ASRAM started functioning from the inception of the academy in 1999. It has gained reputation for providing services free of cost for all the patients by conducting community conducting outreach camps and cataract surgeries associated with government programs like DBCS (District Blindness control Society), in West Godavari district and neighboring district.
Ophthalmology department is well equipped to test, diagnose and treat all kinds of Ocular diseases. Modern equipment like A-scan, B-scan, YAG Laser,Argon laser,fundus camera,synoptophore,phacomachines with demo system and Humphrey’s Visual field testing are available. Apart from dealing with Out-patient problems the department is supported with a well equipped Operation theater complex, well experienced Refractianists, nurses and theater assistants.
As part of the teaching curriculum, the department of Ophthalmology trains Post Graduate students, Undergraduate medical students as well as Paramedical Ophthalmic Assistant students every year. The department has sufficient number of well experienced faculty guided by an eminent Head of the Department. The students get to learn from the wide patient base and are exposed to ample clinical material related to disorders like Cataract, Corneal disorders, Retinal pathologies, Glaucoma, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Squint, Oculoplasty, Uveitis etc.
Our postgraduate students are exposed to variety of cases in specialty clinics on fixed days every week, They have exposure to number of eminent speakers of various specialties and recent advances in Ophthalmology through zonal cme’s sponsored by DRNTRUHS. They am also exposed to the latest techniques and hands on experience in Institutes of Excellence like LV Prasad Eye Institute and Sarojini Devi Eye Institute, at Hyderabad as per the curriculum through peripheral postings.
